Apple has announced pricing for its ipad tablet device and the good news is that it’s cheaper than most of the tech world expected it to be.  Starting from $499, the Apple ipad is available in three disk-sized flavours: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

If you want to shell out less than $500 then you will have to purchase the 16GB version with Wi-Fi but no 3G. Adding 3G to your package is going to cost you an extra $129 ($629).

The most expensive version of the Apple ipad is the 64GB 3G-ready version which will set you back $829 – still cheaper than those who were expecting the device to fly at around $1,000.

If you are packing 3G, then you have the choice of the following data packages: $14.99 for 250MB data $29.99 for unlimited - via AT&T.

March launch for UK

As we expected, with the lack of UK press invitation, the Apple ipad isn’t expected to arrive in the UK just yet.

It seems that if you are looking for a UK release date for the Apple ipad, then it will be available in March Wi-Fi only. Google Nexus One has been launched on ebay, and now the official Google Phone is ready to take on the Iphone 3GS. Will the android phone ever make it to the top 10 phones of all time? This is something, we have to wait about. Here is a short review by our Weboobie Experts.

How it feels

The Nexus One is slightly thinner than the iPhone 3GS, and slightly lighter. No hard specs were thrown around, unfortunately, since Google didn’t even let people who they gave the phone to know that. The back is definitely not cheap and plasticky, like the iPhone’s backing, and feels like some sort of rubbery material. So, not smooth like the iPhone, but not as rubbery as the Droid. It’s halfway in-between.

You can call the design the antithesis of the Droid: smooth, curved, and light, instead of hard, square and pointy. It feels long and silky and natural in your hand—even more so than the iPhone 3GS. There are also three gold contacts on the bottom designed for future docking (possibly charging?) use, but there aren’t any accessories available for the phone now. It plugs in via microUSB at the moment.

Even though the screen is the same size and same resolution as the Droid, it’s noticeably better. The colors are much more vibrant and the blacks are blacker, as evidenced by putting both side by side and hitting up various websites and loading various games. The same feeling carries over when you compare the Nexus with the iPhone 3GS. And it’s pretty damn bright, compared to the other two phones.

This is probably the best screen we’ve seen on a smartphone so far. Probably.

Why is it so fast?

Google just gave Motorola (and Verizon) a swift shot to the TSTS, because the Nexus One is astonishingly faster than the Droid. The speed dominance was most evident when we compared the loading of webpages, but even when you’re just scrolling around, launching apps and moving about the OS, you could tell that there’s a beefier brain inside the N1. I don’t know the specs for sure, but there’s talk of a 1GHz processor being inside, which would push it quite a ways above the 550MHz Arm A8 in Motorola’s newest toy.

When comparing the three phones in loading a webpage over Wi-Fi, the Nexus One loaded first, the iPhone 3GS came in a few seconds later, and the Droid came in a little while after that. This was constant throughout many webpage loads, so it’s indicative of something going on inside with the hardware.

I ran all three through a Javascript benchmark engine for some quantifiable numbers, and while the results were similar between the Nexus One and the iPhone 3GS, the Droid still came up at about 60% of the other two. Surprisingly enough, Mobile Safari on the iPhone scored better on the Javscript benches than the Nexus did, even though the Nexus was able to pull down and render actual web pages faster. Note that I didn’t list actual numbers here, for privacy reasons.

That crazy video background

You’ve no doubt heard about the animated video backgrounds, but they’re actually more than just animations: you can interact with them.

The default background is the square/8-bit like one shown above, where lines of colored squares come in from different sides of the screen. What’s neat (even if it is superfluous and battery draining) is that you can tap anywhere on the desktop in a blank space and trigger dots to spread out from your tap. Basically, press anywhere to cause blocks to fly outwards. The same thing happens in the “water” background, except instead of blocks, you cause ripples in the water.

What’s also neat are the two virtual sound meters, which act as a visualizer for whatever music you’re currently playing on your phone. There’s one analog one that looks like one of the old ones with a red needle, and a “digital” one that looks similar to ones you see elsewhere. Sorta neat in itself, but it shows that the interactive backgrounds can actually interact with apps, as long as one knows the other’s APIs.

Other bits

The 5-megapixel camera is nice, and the flash works well enough for a flash on a phone, but it’s not spectacular, as seen by early photos taken and uploaded online by Googlers. There is autofocus, and you activate it with the trackball on the face of the phone. There is no tap-to-focus as see on the iPhone 3GS.

There’s no multitouch in the browser or in the map, but I think at this point that’s more of a legal consideration than a technical one, since many phones that run Android have the capability of supporting multitouch on a hardware level.

Playing back music over the speakers sounded decent, but not great. It’s definitely in need of a dock—like all smartphones—if you want to listen to music for a sustained period.

I didn’t get a chance to call on it, because I wanted to keep this as anonymous as possible, and didn’t want any sort of way to trace when I used the phone. From what other people say in their time with it, it functions fine as a phone, and should work as normally as other Android phones in the SMS/MMS department.

So what’s this all mean?

Google’s planning on releasing this phone and naming it as their Official Google phone.

But in the end, it’s still an Android phone. If you want Android phones, this is the one to get, provided Google goes ahead with the rumored plans of either selling it themselves or partnering with T-Mobile in a more traditional role. Droid, shmoid; Nexus is the one you’re looking for.

‘Hot’, pink,’ ‘black’, beige. The latest fad to take over Facebook and Twitter this week was the Bra Colour Meme. A quick internet search stumbled on to a couple of suggestions that the women were stating the colours of their bras. There were also Digg posts, and articles from the Google News that showed up.

A momentary fad swept Facebook Thursday in which female users updated their status with the color of their bras.

This mass campaign started in Detroit, during the breast cancer awareness month of October, but took off last week when a message was forwarded via emails and facebook inbox messages.

Why did people end up describing their lingerie on Facebook anyway? I guess for the same reason anyone posts anything on Facebook: People wanted a little attention. But aren’t we sidelining the cause and the treatement of Breast cancer at the same time.

A fan club ungrammatically titled “I Really Dont Care What Color Your Bra Is” was soon gathering members at a rapid clip.

Samsung Omnia Pro Features

I got my hands on Samsung Omnia during the first week of it’s launch. PRO B7320 appears to be a European version of the existing Samsung i637 Jack phone, available on AT&T Wireless. In truth, the Omnia name really doesn’t fit here. Sure, the B7320 has GPS(read as Google Maps), but it also comes with a smallish 2.4″ display. We’re not saying that the B7320 is a bad phone, it’s just that in the past the Omnia name has been used only for very high end devices. Having said this, the Samsung Omnia seemed like an ideal phone for my college and helped me with a lot of engineering tasks specially it’s GPRS Internet and advanced office applications.

That display is a standard 2.4″ 320 x 240 pixel non-touch panel, pretty similar to the sort of thing you would find in a normal mobile phone. We don’t see many non-touchscreen Windows phones these days, and because of this the Omnia PRO B7320 runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard rather than Professional, although the basic functionality is still very similar.

The camera is a 3 megapixel unit with autofocus, but does not work pretty well in the night. The 3.15 MP camera  is capable of taking images upto 2048×1536 pixels and videos upto 30fp

GPS is built in, but the B7320 isn’t really suited as a SatNav replacement because of the small display. The Omnia PRO B7320 comes with WiFi, and it supports 3.5G HSDPA download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps.

Of course, as a Windows Mobile device it comes with things like a web browser and multimedia player, and in the case of the B7320 it also integrates with Facebook, MySpace,Twitter and popular instant messaging clients.

Email is obviously a key feature of a device like this, and the B7320 supports standard email clients plus push email from Microsoft Exchange. Despite its fairly unexciting feature set, the B7320 is likely to be a very practical messaging device and worth considering as an alternative to a BlackBerry.

A couple of other noteworthy features on the Omnia PRO B7320 are the large 1480 mAh battery, and the fact the Samsung say that this (and all Omnia devices) should be updatable to Windows Mobile 6.5 when it comes out.

There’s no word on pricing or availability, but the AT&T version of the B7320 is already on sale, so we don’t think it will be a very long wait. If we had to guess at pricing, we would suggest that the Omnia PRO B7320 would cost something in the region of €350 SIM-free.

Imagine a blonde girl sitting on that left corner of a starbuck outlet with her laptop and an evil smile. Yes she is your twitter whore.

I joined twitter over a year ago, when I was a sophomore. That was when the ‘Twitter’ hype actually started creeping in. I have posted around 5,600 tweets till now and counting and I must say I have come across various set of people. No, I am not doing a major in psychology, but I can still analyze and optimize people.

When twitter was developed, it was meant to be used as a link and information sharing tool and striking great conversations. But over the past months, I have stumbled across profiles which do not have a single tweet which makes sense. I wonder how the little twitter bird can take so much load .

You see, when I use a term called as ‘Whore’, they’re real Whores. The lady of the night types you see in the pubs - venues of which look more like a catchments area. You can just see straight through their kohl lined eyes. Yes, that blonde girl down the lane who does not need a reason to parties every night, she is your twitter whore. She sits on the left corner of a starbuck outlet with her laptop, and tweets about how hot the guy is sitting next to her, or even more random tweets about the coffee bubbles.

Over the upcoming weeks, I will be posting about different kinds of people, starting with a typical Twitter girlfriend.

How to find the wireless access points?

Keep your laptop notifications turned on, so that it keeps searching for new wireless access points

Since Wi-Fi and cell phone signals travel on the same radio frequency, the same tricks you use for getting a better mobile connection might work on your laptop. Stand near a window, since Wi-Fi signals travel better through glass than through solid walls. Try using your laptop like a compass.

Wifi networks at airports

We all love free wi-fi’s don’t we? And what can be better than seeing the name “ Airport wi-fi” on your laptop.

I remember while I was at the Bangkok airport, and waiting at the immigration section. This was when I had my first bruise with unsecured wi-fi connections. I was just dying to update my facebook status. I entered the “username” and “password” as “admin” and “admin” and it worked.

After a few minutes, when I went to the conveyor belt to collect my luggage, the same wifi network disappeared.

Most of the airports in the world, have free wi-fi networks. While some airports in the world that I have been to have security protocols. For Instance- the Hyderabad airport in India and Phuket in Thailand have premium paid secured networks which are impossible to crack because each user is assigned a username and password.

If you’re going to steal—no, let’s say borrow for a few days—your neighbour’s Wi-Fi access, you might as well as not tell him.

Pay close attention to your laptop’s orientation—rotating your machine just a few degrees could help you pick up an alien network that you couldn’t see before. Place your laptop over your head, put it flat on the floor, tilt it sideways while leaning halfway out the window—You might become famous for being some next generation- laptop yoga freak, and might get a few stares too from your neighbour but isn’t free Internet worth it?

Search for default networks named “linksys,” “default,” “Wireless,” “NETGEAR,” “belkin54g,” and “Apple Network 0273df.” If the network name is the default name of the hardware provider, chances are you have found your victim network J

Now look at the network bar – on the taskbar. It depicts the signal of the network. It should be minimum 3 bars.

If you do get prompted for a password, try “public”—that’s the default on many of Apple’s AirPort units. You can also try common username and passwords like “admin,” “password, “1234″ for Dlink networks and “Multi”, “Telnet” and “Http“ for Linksys networks.

Wifi in colleges

For college wi-fi, try putting the username as admin and password as your “college name” or vice versa. This works 70% of the time. Similar for any organization or firm, try putting the firm’s name followed by 1234.

Last, but not the least there are a lot of paid tools and software available on the net which claim to hack the 802.11 wifi networks. But my experience says that they all are fake clones of some other products which do not work.
